Should I stay or should I go?

Creating opportunities in the place you’re at.

While I do love platforms like LinkedIn, I find it curious that I get so many suggestions to support my next career move, all grounded in the assumption that this would naturally be to another company.

Right or wrong, my default has always been to consider how to reach for or make opportunities within the company I am working for. If there’s an existing role that I am interested in, what can I do to develop my knowledge and abilities so as to become an obvious candidate? If I see an opportunity for a new role, how can I build a story compelling enough to move the hearts and minds of decision makers?

Perhaps this approach is not for everyone, and clearly there will be times when changing companies is the right move forward. But as I consider the range of experiences I’ve had across more than 33 years with Roland, maybe there’s something to an approach that some might oversimplify as just being Loyal.
